USW / Steelworkers Local 9700 members are in Pittsburg on May 8 to protest at the Alcoa shareholders’ meeting.

In January 2019, Alcoa and Rio Tinto Alcan jointly decided to lock out 1030 workers at the Bécancour smelter (ABI) in Centre-du-Québec (near the Mauricie region), Canada. Negotiations were going well when the employer decided to break off the talks and attempt a coup by filing a final and comprehensive offer in December. The offer was unsurprisingly rejected on January 10th by USW Local 9700 members.
