From November 28-29, the Global Unions' Committee on Workers' Capital will be holding its annual conference, in person, in Barcelona, Spain. The conference is the premier forum for international collaboration and dialogue between trade unions and pension fund trustees to effect change in the global economy through the responsible investment of workers' capital.

REGISTRATION

The 2022 Workers' Capital Conference conference will be held in Barcelona, Spain in the Auditorium of the Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreras - Catalunya over two days:

Monday November 28th
Tuesday November 29th

The CWC Networking Dinner will be held on Sunday November 27th

AGENDA

Session topics for this year's conference will include current challenges and opportunities from trustees around the world, strategies to hold asset managers accountable on fundamental labour rights in investments, the impact of sustainable finance policy developments on pension trustees and trade unions.

Launch Event - Shared Prosperity: The Investor Case for Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining

The CWC is pleased to invite you to the launch event for its new report, Shared Prosperity: The Investor Case for Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining. The launch event will take place online via Zoom and in-person during the CWC Conference in Barcelona.

WEBINAR on Tuesday, November 29th, 2022

The rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining are fundamental human rights. Around the world, employers compromise these rights by taking measures to prevent, prohibit or interfere with workers' efforts to join a union and negotiate the terms and conditions of their employment. Such labour rights violations present material risks for investors. Simultaneously, there is a strong business case for respecting fundamental labour rights.

The session will begin with a presentation of the CWC report, describing the value created when workers exercise their labour rights, including improved corporate human rights due diligence, positive contributions to corporate performance in areas such as health and safety, retention, productivity, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the mitigation of systemic risks associated with inequality and weak economic growth.

A respondent panel featuring workers, a company representative, an asset manager and an asset owner board member will discuss the report findings and recommendations in the context of their own experiences. Attendees will come away with both the foundation and tools for engaging portfolio companies regarding the rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining.

This year's conference will take place in the Auditorium of the Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreras - Catalunya (Via Laietana, 16, 08003 Barcelona, Spain). Keynote Information: Emmanuel Faber, Chair of the ISSB

We are delighted to announce that Emmanuel Faber, the Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) will give the keynote address at the CWC 2022 Workers' Capital Conference on Monday, November 28th.

Mr. Faber will join us virtually to discuss the global baseline sustainability disclosures that are being developed by the ISSB, and how those are relevant for trade unions and pension fund trustees. The ISSB is part of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation.

Emmanuel Faber is the former CEO of Danone, a French multinational which has had a Global Framework Agreement with the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Association (IUF) since 1989. On Nov. 28 and 29, the Global Unions' Committee on Workers' Capital will be holding its annual conference, in person, in Barcelona, Spain.

The global convening of pension funds trustees, trade union representatives and other stakeholders will take place in the Auditorium of the Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreras - Catalunya (Via Laietana, 16, 08003 Barcelona, Spain).

For the first time in three years, you will have an opportunity to meet in person with your global peers to advance the responsible investment of workers' capital, develop capital strategies on trade union priorities and meet with global asset managers to drive accountability.

CWC 2021 Conference: Fiona Reynolds in discussion with Sharan Burrow

How can we ensure that asset managers' commitments to prioritize social issues have real-word implications for workers?

To launch this year's conference, we are pleased to announce a discussion between the outgoing CEO of the PRI, Fiona Reynolds, and General Secretary of the ITUC, Sharan Burrow on asset manager accountability.

In the wake of COVID-19, large asset managers have made a plethora of commitments to social issues, ranging from addressing systemic racism in their portfolios to prioritizing workforce issues in their stewardship. As the discourse of ESG moves into the mainstream, this session looks at how asset owners can ensure that asset managers' commitments have real-world implications for workers.

We will begin with an interview with outgoing CEO of the UN PRI, Fiona Reynolds, who will discuss initiatives that the UN PRI has taken to respond to calls to increase the accountability of its growing signatory base.

A panel of asset owners and organizations pressing asset managers on social issues will then discuss strategies and priorities for elevating social issues in the investment chain.
